Blockade:
For this blog post, we were supposed to create a board-game with a partner. So we first, decided the mechanics, and the basic idea about the game. Then we had a ‘divorce’ and made some additional to our game by ourselves. We decided to name our game – Blockade. The mechanics of this game would be – hexagon grid.
General Idea: Blockade is a two-player game. The game starts with both the players have equal number of hexagons. But there is a twist, player A will have all 3 sets of different colors. And player B, will have the remaining 3 different color sets. The main goal of this game is to get the maximum points. But we need to be careful to place our hexagons, because we are not allowed to go out of the given board.
Some rules we started out with:
- You can not place a hexagon that goes outside the given board.
- Except the first hexagon placed, all the other hexagons need to touch at least one side of another hexagon. So basically, you need to place your hexagon exactly besides another hexagon.
- When you place one card properly(obeying rules 1 and 2), then you get one point.
- When you place three cards in a line, or in a way that each card touches the other card with the same color, then you get three points. So basically having three same color cards together, get you three points.
- The game would end when players finish their hexagons, or when the board is full, and can not fit any more hexagons.

Session 1: The first session we played the very basic game. Based on the rules above. Both the players would place their hexagon. If you placed the hexagon based on the rules above you get more points.

Session 2: After the first session we decided to make some upgrades so that the game is not so simple. In order to decide who goes first, we got in a dice. The player who rolls the higher number goes in first. So this eliminated the randomness on who goes first. The next time that we implemented was – combination hexagons. For instance, if red and yellow hexagons were placed besides each other, and it was my turn, if I have ‘Orange’ hexagon then I would put that down besides either red or yellow hexagon. And this would grant me two extra points. Since ‘Red’ + ‘Yellow’ = ‘Orange’.
Including these rules into our game, made it interesting.

Session 3: In this session, we started out by playing the game with the same rules. And then to make the game a bit more challenging we included the ‘blocks’. Whenever you are going to place in your hexagon, you need to be sure to not put it on a block. AVOID BLOCKS. Once we implemented this, the game seemed fun to play.
The game could be played by more people. But if we wanted to include more players, we would have to increase the size of the board, and have so many more hexagons. Overall, it was a fun time.
