This week we ended up playing a quite interesting game of Exploding Kittens, created by Elan Lee, Matthew Inman, and Shane Small. So Adam Golab, Mark Matthews and I decided to sit down and give this game a go.
We began our game by distributing the defuse cards, and gave each player a defuse card. After that the deck was shuffled, and we gave everyone seven cards to start the game with. Now the remaining defuse cards were put in the deck, and shuffled again. Once the cards were dealt, I couldn’t help but laugh at the different types of weird cards.

The basic rule for this game was – DO NOT EXPLODE. If you draw an explode card, you would explode and die, unless you have a defuse card to prevent that. We started with Mark putting down the ‘Taco cat’ card, which was pretty much powerless by itself. If we have 2 or 3 of the same powerless cards, then we can get a card from another player. After that I put down a shuffle card, this card allowed me to shuffle the whole deck to make sure that there is no weird shuffle.
After this Adam put down two of the same powerless card, and he took a random card from my deck. Get got back to Mark again, he put down an ‘Attack’ card, so Mark did not have to draw any cards. Subsequently, I drew out an ‘Explode’ card, and since I had a ‘Defuse’ card, I did not die. Then Adam put in the freebie powerless card, and drew a top card from the deck. The next round everyone just put in a powerless card, and drew the top cards from the deck.
The next interesting move was when Adam put in 3 of the same powerless cards, and then he could get a card of his choice from anyone in the group. So he got my ‘Defuse’ card. The Mark put down the ‘Alter’ card, so he could after the order of the top 3 cards. So when I drew the next card for my turn, I got a ‘Explode’ card. And since I had no ‘Defuse’ card, I died. In the end, Mark won the game.
Overall, this game was very interesting, and funny at the same moment. It was definitely a good game for a group setting.
